Harman Hogs
In 1976 HMAS HARMAN was approached by the Monaro Australian Football League to enter a team in their competition. A combined defence side predominately made up of Navy personnel with assistance from both RAAF and Army was based at Harman. In their first year of competition they made the preliminary final narrowly losing to CCAE..
Due to insufficient support from the other services, the committee agreed on a name change and the Harman Australian Football Club was subsequently formed in 1977. The club has maintained at least one club since 1977 with several years having both a senior and reserves side. Recently the HAFC have also nominated teams in local netball competitions.
The club went back to back premiers 1985/86 taking out the MAFL division 2 and then 1 titles taking out the 86 grand final by defeating Belconnen by 212 points. This was followed by a further 5 grand final appearances but didnt win their 3rd and final until 1995. Many individual awards have also been achieved by Harman players, these include:
Ken "Alfa" McKeown - 1985 Tom Moore Medalist, MAFL second division B & F
Leigh Jackson - 1985 leading goalkicker, MAFL second division
Steve Cleeman - 1986 MAFL first division leading goalkicker and B & F

One personal milestone that stands out within the club is the contribution of Morgan Dunbar. Morgan is the only player to have amassed over 200 games for the club and in fact has reached over 400. He has held just about every position in the club and along with wife Leonie is a Life Member of the club. The top oval at HMAS HARMAN was named after Morgan in recogonition of his contribution.
The Harman Hogs have maintained a close relationship with RANAFA for many years. The ASAFA carnival was held in Canberra for 5 years with the RANAFA squads making HMAS HARMAN their home base each year.

Check out the Harman Hogs website for more information about the club.
