2010 ASAFA Carnival
The 2010 ASAFA Carnival was held in Melbourne at the Ted Whitten Oval for the second year as part of a 5 year plan. In a shortened preparation period, RANAFA went into camp at CERBERUS before relocating to RAAF Laverton once the games began.
Girls
The Girls opened up with a strong performance against RAAF who had been defeated by Army by 70 points. The game was reduced to a 16 a side match due to the RAAF being undermanned. In what was a scrappy game with 6 new personnel playing for Navy for the first time, we managed to defeat RAAF by xx points with their only 2 goals coming from 50 free kicks.

The team was fairly confident prior to the Army game and a stirring speech by RANAFA legend Chris Ploughman had them in the right frame of mind. With the use of a strong wind we managed to open up nearly a 2 goal lead and with some hard work running into the wind, retained a one goal advantage at half time. We did not however use the wind to our advantage and with 70 percent of the play did not hurt Army on the scoreboard going into the last quarter with only a one point lead. With 6 minutes to go scores were tied when navy received a free kick at the 50 metre mark which was converted into a goal which was then followed by 3 more to seal the game. The final score was not a true indication of the closeness of the game.

Guys
There were 7 new representatives in the male squad for the 2010 campaign. After watching the Army defeat RAAF by a comfortable 8 goals, Toots prepared the side for a hard running, physical style of play which worked very well. Jack Horner proved a formidable target and even when tripled tagged managed to take strong pack marks. He was able helped up forward by Patty Wilson with the delivery from further afield very accurate. Special mention to first timer SMN Tez Terry who was given the task to run with RAAF captain Nigel Peacock and took him out of the game after being dominent in the first half.

Toots tried to keep a lid on the team in preparation for the Army match. A recovery morning down at St Kilda beach with the afternoon off was appreciated by the players who took the opportunity to see some of the AFL matches.
Two changes were made on the morning of the final match to bring in fresh legs. With the aid of a strong wind, Navy opened up a 2 goal break on Army by quarter time but several missed opportunities prevented this lead from being greater. Army came out stronger in the second quarter and opened up a lead before some good rebounding defence closed the gap to 3 goals at half time. A spray from Toots at the break saw the lads come out fighting and dominate possession however were unable to hurt Army on the scoreboard and use the win to their advantage. The gap remained 3 goals at the final break and some very strong running into the wind saw Navy gradually creep within 9 points but, with momentum going our way, the final siren came a few minutes early.
