2012 ASAFA National Carnival

Preparations are well underway by RANAFA Executive Committee members in a bid to regain/retain the Jim Smail and Geoff Ledger Cups at the 2012 ASAFA National Carnival. Dates have been set with Navy playing on the following days:

Tues 17 Apr - Navy v Army

Thurs 19 Apr - Navy v RAAF

Sat 21 Apr - Army v RAAF

A draft Administrative Instruction details most of the requirements potential players need if they intend nominating for this year's carnival. Players can contact their respective team managers to register their interest or gain additional information.

CERBERUS Football Club - 2011 Southern Football League Thirds Premiers

Congratulations to the CERBERUS Football Club on taking out the 2011 Thirds premiership. In a close, hard fought match, CERBERUS defeated Chelsea Heights 8-15 (63) to 8-5 (53). Check out the CERBERUS link for all the details.

Congratulations to the HARMAN Hogs taking out the 2011 AFL Canberra division 3 premiership defeating ADFA 11.8 (74) to 6.10 (46). Click here for all the details

 

2011 ASAFA National Carnival

The 2011 RANAFA has been run with mixed results for the Navy sides. The girls made it 4 wins from the last 6 carnivals with a big win over RAAF and a tightly fought out match against Army. The guys also accounted for RAAF and, after taking a good lead into the 2nd quarter, were over-run by Army. Final scores were:

Thu 14 Apr 10 - St Albans
Women: Navy 18.8 (116) defeated Air Force 0.1 (1)
Men: Navy 14.8 (92) defeated Air Force 11.2 (68)

Sat 18 Apr 10 - Sunshine
Women: Navy 5.3 (33) defeated Army 4.7 (31)
Men: Army 12.7 (79) defeated Navy 8.12 (60)

The victorious 2011 girls team after receiving their carnival medals.

Simon Horner was named Navy player of the carnival by the ASAFA board with Trish Muller taking out the honour for the girls. RANAFA players of the carnival were Sean Byrne and Amy Carpenter.

A number of Navy players were selected for the All-Stars matches with the girls winning their match against a Victorian Women's development squad on Easter Thursday. The guys played the Emergency Services prior to the Port Adelaide v Gold Coast match at AAMI stadium on Easter Saturday, going down by 19 pts.

2011 Kapooka 12s

Congratulations to the Cerberus Football Club in taking out the Kapooka 12s plate. After going down to Albatross in the round robin stage, CFC found themselves with their backs to the wall but responded well, defeating the Tross boys in the plate final.

The RANAFA girls also had a good hitout in preparation for the national carnival. After going down to both ADFA and Army early, they regrouped to defeat ADFA for the chance to play against Army in the Grand Final, eventually being soundly beaten. Congratulations to Amy Carpenter for taking out the 100m sprint.

Fleet Commanders Challenge

Congratulations to all those involved with the 2011 Fleet Commanders Challenge. A great day was put on by the NISC PT staff with good numbers participating in both the guys and girls matches. Congratulations to Catta Convery in taking out the Darren Murray medal and Amy Carpenter the Rohan Jennings medal for best on ground.

 

 

ASAFA All-Stars Coaching position.

ASAFA are seeking nominations for the All-Stars coach for the 2011 game against the Emergency Services in Adelaide over the ANZAC long weekend. Check out the link if you are interested.

2010 RANAFA Tour

In July of this year, RANAFA toured the Top End as part of the Navy Community Engagement Programme. This proved to be an exciting initiative which raised the profile of Navy within the far north indigenous communities. The team travelled to Arnhem Land and the Tiwi Islands and culminated in the the guys playing an indigenous representational side prior to the Bulldogs v Port Adelaide AFL match at TIO Stadium.
